Getting Started

Open a plan set — tap Open and choose any PDF from Files, iCloud Drive, or another app. On Mac, use File > Open or drag a PDF onto the window.
Mark up — pick a tool from the toolbar: pen, highlight, arrows, shapes, clouds, callouts, notes, stamps, photos, signatures, and voice memos.
Calibrate, then measure — use Calibrate on a known dimension once per sheet, then Dimension, Area, Linear, and Count give real-world quantities for takeoff.
Punch list — drop punch pins on the plan, attach photos, and track status per item.
Search sheets — the sheet list searches drawing text. Scanned sets are read in the background so they become searchable too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are my markups saved?
Markups are saved automatically in a sidecar file next to your PDF on your device. The original PDF is never modified until you choose Export or Share.

How do I send a marked-up set to someone?
Use Share. A flattened PDF opens in any PDF viewer. A .plantrace package keeps the markups editable for another PlanTrace user.

Does PlanTrace need an account or internet connection?
No. There is no login, and the app works fully offline. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. See the Privacy Policy.

Does it support Apple Pencil?
Yes. Pressure changes line weight, double-tap swaps to the eraser, and on Apple Pencil Pro a squeeze cycles through drawing tools.

A measurement looks wrong.
Re-run Calibrate on that sheet using the longest clearly labeled dimension you can find. Each sheet keeps its own scale.
